SiteHale vs WordPress Maintenance Plans

Care plans are good at what they do: updates, backups, security. Two things set us apart. When a risky update runs, it runs on a staging copy of your own site — and your key pages have to come back working, checked against a marker that proves the page still functions, not a screenshot and not just a 200. And none of these plans bundle SEO execution: the cheapest we found that does is $2,190/mo. Care ($49) monitors your site and runs the SEO, Managed ($149) does the maintenance work too. Both are also available annually — two months free (Care $490/yr, Managed $1,490/yr).

The Gap Nobody Prices

We re-surveyed the WordPress care market in September 2026 — 20 care vendors and 8 hosts, prices taken from their own pages: WP Buffs, FixRunner, WBCom, FatLab, WP Maintainer, SiteCare, Valet and the rest. Entry plans cluster at $59–$199 and run to $435 and beyond. Here’s the pattern:

$59+
verified care-plan entry tiers start here — updates, backups, security. Zero SEO execution.
$99
where the word “SEO” first appears — as minutes in a time bank, or a monitoring report
$2,190
SiteCare’s Diamond tier — the cheapest plan we found that actually executes SEO
$149
SiteHale Managed: full care and SEO, one flat price (Care, monitoring + SEO, is $49)

The industry’s own commentary explains why: at $99/mo, a human-hours agency can afford less than 45 minutes of a person’s time. SEO work simply doesn’t fit in a human-delivered care plan at this price — it only fits if the work is automated and the humans review. That’s SiteHale’s whole design.

Feature by Feature

Typical care plan ($59–$150/mo) SiteHale Care ($49/mo) SiteHale Managed ($149/mo)
Plugin & core updates Applied Monitored & reported Applied weekly — risky ones staged + smoke-tested first
Backups Weekly, kept off-site + restore-drilled into staging and smoke-tested
Staging copy of your site At higher tiers Included, kept in sync
Security & uptime monitoring + DNS, SSL, mail-flow, checkout heartbeat Same — and we fix what it catches
Speed & database optimization At higher tiers Reported monthly Monthly, hands-on
SEO audits & fixes of existing pages Sold separately — bundled nowhere we found under $2,190/mo
Keyword tracking & content strategy
Content creation (blog, KB) Curated, human-reviewed drafts
Google Business Profile posting
AI-assistant visibility tracking
Custom development hours At higher tiers Not included Quoted separately
24/7 emergency human response At higher tiers Monitored alerts, not a 24/7 desk Business days, not a 24/7 desk

we do it  ·  we watch it and tell you  ·  not included

The last two rows are the honest concession: if you need custom dev hours or a 24/7 human help desk, a traditional care plan (or ours plus a developer) is the right call.

Read the first two rows carefully — that’s the real comparison. Care is priced against a care plan but spends its budget on the SEO half; Managed is the like-for-like replacement. Straight about price: several care plans apply updates for $59–$99, and at least one of them ($99) stages every update and test-restores a backup weekly — cheaper than us, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we could not find at any price is a plan that runs the update on a staged copy of your own site and then checks your money paths against a marker that proves the page still works — not a screenshot, not just a 200 — before anything reaches production; or one that bundles the SEO work rather than selling it separately. That difference is not theoretical: on one of our stores a Gravity Forms major update was verified by four pages — home, cart, checkout and shop — not one of which can tell you whether a form still renders. The check that can is the one asserting the form’s own markup is still on the page. “The page loaded” and “the thing on it still works” are different questions. On stores we ask the second one of your live site too: a heartbeat reads your actual order volume against its own trailing baseline, so a gateway that dies while every page still returns 200 raises an alert instead of waiting for a customer to tell you. Backups and server-level monitoring run from your hosting login — the same one every care plan asks for — which we set up ourselves and confirm free, before you pay.

Care That Proves Itself

Most care plans email you when something breaks. SiteHale’s monthly report shows what we caught — and what your SEO did:

Protection events

Every incident the monitors caught this month — a certificate about to lapse, a dead cron, a plugin update held back because a key page failed its check on staging — listed in plain English, with the count of automated checks that ran.

SEO results

Google clicks and impressions against last period, keyword winners, content published, scores improved — the half of the report no maintenance plan at this price can print at all.

Backups that restore

A backup you’ve never restored is a hope, not a backup. Every plan’s snapshots are verified — decompressed and checked, not just written. On Managed we go further and run scheduled restore drills: importing a real backup into a staging copy and smoke-testing it, so recovery is rehearsed rather than assumed.

Why SiteHale’s Automation Is Different

No backlink exchange — ever

Some AI SEO tools bundle automated reciprocal link networks — the pattern Google’s link-spam policy describes, with your domain carrying the risk. SiteHale builds internal links and earns visibility with content. We will never enroll your site in a link network.

Automation with a safety catch

Our automation refuses changes that would hurt your site: an edit that would shrink a page’s content is blocked, content changes are only enabled after we’ve verified they render on your specific theme, and on Managed risky plugin updates run on a staging copy of your own site and have to prove your key pages still work before they reach production. A human reviews every alert.

Common Questions

Can SiteHale replace my current maintenance plan?

For most small-business sites, yes — but pick the right plan. Managed ($149/mo, or $1,490/yr — two months free) is the like-for-like replacement: we apply the updates (staging-tested when risky), keep restore-drilled backups, optimize speed and the database, and fix what the monitoring catches — plus the SEO engine your current plan almost certainly lacks. Care ($49) is the SEO-first plan: it runs the search work and watches everything above, reporting what it finds — the right fit when SEO is the gap you’re trying to close and site maintenance is already handled. The exceptions are real either way: if your plan includes custom development hours or a 24/7 human help desk you actually use, keep that relationship or pair it with us.

How can $49 include SEO when agencies charge $500+?

Because the work is done by automation we built and run on our own sites, with humans reviewing the output — not by billable hours. An agency at $99/mo can afford under 45 minutes of a person’s time; automation doesn’t bill by the minute. You’re paying for the review, the judgment, and the report — the machine does the repetitive part.

What about the AI SEO tools instead?

They have the mirror-image gap: content and on-page automation with zero site care. We compare against the big three directly — Outrank, ClickRank, Distribb — including what each does better than us.

Is there a setup fee?

No — there is no setup fee on any plan. Install the free plugin, run a Site Checkup, click Connect, and onboarding is $0. Details on the pricing page.
